Allgemeiner Überblick:

Die Quantenchromodynamik wird als die fundamentale Theorie der Starken Wechselwirkung angesehen, ist aber analytisch weitgehend nicht auswertbar.  Ihre Vorhersagen werden daher nichtperturbativ, durch Simulation auf Supercomputern untersucht.  Wegen der hohen Ressourcenanforderungen kommen bei der Computer-Implementation modernste Methoden der Angewandten Mathematik und Informatik zur Anwendung.  Dabei spielte das parallele Supercomputersystem ALICE an der Bergischen Universität eine entscheidende Rolle.

Für den Berichtzeitraum ist besonders hinzuweisen  auf die in Physical Revue D veröffentlichte Arbeit 4, mit der erstmals überhaupt in diesem Rahmen  die Berechnung  des Zerfalls von schweren Quarkonium Zuständen gelang und die daher  einen wichtigen Meilenstein in der Simulation der QCD darstellt.
